The Come Hither Look Thursday, 15 March 2007

An email exchange with GB reminded me of an incident that happened a few years back. I was having my dinner in the S11 hawker centre in Ang Mo Kio town centre when i suddenly became aware that someone was signalling to me. I looked carefully and sitting a few table ahead of me was a Chinese woman with long black hair. She was wearing a skirt and sitting with her legs crossed. She was looking at me with her head tilted down (think Princess Diana). I wasn’t sure with what I was seeing so I continued with my dinner while taking occasional glances at her. And there it was again… she gave me the come-hither look. When she wasn’t getting the response she anticipated from me, she started stroking her hair while looking at me – a woman’s signal that she is interested. I was greatly amused as this was the first time something like this, from a stranger, had happened to me. I smiled. That seemed to have given her some encouragement as she started signalled with a nod to her head towards the chair next to her, beckoning me to come over. Now, I would be alright with this if this was a pub or a club but this was taking place in a brightly lit hawker centre! She looked older than me and that got me thinking that she might be a Working Lady. I also started to notice that the hawkers sitting near us had also discovered the going ons between us. She beckoned me over once more but I smiled and shook my head slightly as I got up to leave. I had finished my dinner then. A look of disappointment came over her and she beckoned me over with her head a little more vigourously. I smiled and left. I wonder what I would have done if she had sat at my table!
